Did Covid-19 Force You to change your Maine wedding plans? Don't fret just yet! Micro weddings can be beautiful! I absolutely love small, backyard weddings.

The Covid-19 pandemic has drastically changed so much in the past few months, and it’s impact has transformed the wedding and tourism industry here in Maine. Gatherings are limited to 50 people or less and traveling from out of state to attend a Maine destination wedding is no longer a cake walk.

Couples who were planning on marrying with their large venue weddings this summer have had to make some heartbreaking choices and some who are choosing to not postpone, are cutting the guest list, moving venues and finding creative ways to host fabulous micro weddings.

These intimate weddings are usually held at home with small friends and family and some couples are choosing to just elope in private ceremonies with the intent to host a 2021 reception. I encourage all couples to work with their vendors and venues first to try to reschedule before opting for a new micro wedding plan.

Micro weddings are here to stay for the time being. If you are currently faced with having to reimagine your wedding location and trim down your guest list, I’m here to offer some solace—backyard weddings are some of my favorites to photograph. The intimacy of a smaller gathering in the privacy of a family or friend’s home lends itself to being uniquely individual and authentic.

Here’s one of my favorite backyard weddings that I shot in Pownal, Maine. Sasha and Robert had married already but came to Maine for a reception with close family and friends. They had a traditional lobster bake and their venue of choice was the home of their best friend.

I fell in love with this little cape farmhouse, that had been wonderfully restored along with the tiny barn, complete with a bar and seating for a few. From the beautiful hydrangea blossoms to the patina on the farmhouse, the celebration was truly unique, and curated perfect for this wonderful couple.

In the end, it’s not about the size of your wedding, it’s your love that truly counts. If I’m being truly honest, a smaller gathering is an opportunity to sink into the present moment with your family and tribe, to squeeze every last memory out of your day and to relax and have fun.

If you are searching for a photographer for your micro wedding or elopement during this time, please reach out. I am healthy and happy to capture your love, socially distanced, masked and smiling. Let’s do this! I’m offering a 15% discount on all remaining 2020 dates. Together we will create something beautiful.

Big Hugs,
